One that sticks in my mind is the Israeli Army diet, a kind of fad that had nothing to do with either the Israeli Army or nutrition. Last time I heard this chestnut was about a week ago.

Apparently when my mother was a teenager the in thing was the "green apple" diet, which I suppose is similar to the cabbage soup diet.

My grandfather likes to claim that most of his relatives are on the "see food diet." ("Whenever they see food, they eat it. Huh huh.")
