  • In computer science, especially networking, "stateful' is opposed to "stateless", and means that something is remembered from one interaction to the next. For example, the HTTP protocol that the web is built on is fundamentally stateless, but browser cookies are one way to add state to it, so that when you go back to a web site it remembers who you are.
