I have a quandry here. Years ago I used to pick up shipments at a bonded customs warehouse. If the goods had been there over an allotted time, it was necessary to pay "demerge" in order to get the goods released. It was the only time in my life that I encountered the word. I now find myself looking for some hint of that meaning, but I have yet to find it.

I like the word 'demerge' if I could use it in the sense of extracting oneself from a morphic field. A morphic field would be the collective consciousness of something, for example the collective consciousness of 'Happy New Year.' There is a huge positive morphic field (collective consciousness) around 'Happy New Year'.
There are negative morphic fields, such as a collective consciousness of a fear that a huge storm automatically assumes massive destruction.
I like the word 'demerge' because I do believe I can choose to demerge from that collective consciousness by choice.
There was one woman I know whose house was in the path of a vicious overland storm. She 'demerged' as it were. What turned out was that in her neighborhood every single person had huge city cleanup and home repairs to do. She did not. Her house was completely unscathed and she spent her time helping other people instead of needing help herself.
