Me too. Fortunately for this chap he's the pin up boy of the environmental movement. A lot of effort has been put into habitat preservation, studies, breeding programs. We know more about this bird than why Australians put tomato sauce (ketchup) on everything they eat. Now that I think of it I'll have to add Yellingbo to my place names, it's strangely evocative.

Good for the honeyeater! I hope the interest spreads to other rare species (of all types).
Australians put ketchup on everything? Come to Philadelphia, where everything is served with mustard. :-)

I was hosting a French backpacker last month. In the morning I pointed out the neighbour's podgy black rabbit, Cutie, who shares my back yard.
"Do you like rabbits?" I asked.
"Yes, with mustard," she said.
She's from Dijon *sigh*

Then there's the helmeted homeyeater, an endangered species in the era of today's Don't ask, don't tell army. Probably counting fewer than 1500 individuals.
