Hi everyone. :-)
-
You're awesome.
-
Hernesheir, I've checked the privacy settings and all seems in order. Apparently, I'm not the only one having such trouble. See ruzuzu's comment about http://support.wordnik.com/wordnik/topics/seeing_other_peoples_lists (and the workaround).
-
Thanks, ruzuzu! I have to remind myself to keep checking for glitches on the support site. :-)
-
I wandered over to http://support.wordnik.com/wordnik/topics/seeing_other_peoples_lists and saw that there's a ticket for this issue already. In the meantime, one suggestion would be to try adding the word "lists" to the end of the Wordnik user's address--like so: http://www.wordnik.com/users/reesetee/lists
Good luck!
-
I don't see your lists either, reesetee. Perhaps your profile privacy settings prevent others from seeing your lists?
-
Hi Carmaella. I'm seeing a list of my lists on the right side of my profile page, with the list names in hypertext. That should get you where you want to go. Does that not work on your screen?
-
I love you, ReeseTee. Be my mistress and I will never leave you nor will you leave me because we love one another so.
-
Plinth?
-
Plinth.
-
Yep. He outpaced me a while ago.
-
Have you looked at hernesheir's?
-
Well, a little--but in a good way.
-
Yeah. Scary, right? ;-)
-
Um, 29,587?
Wow.
-
Happy Strangely Orange Snack Appreciation Day!
-
I think of you each time I add a Scots bird (nick)name to my Dr. Jamieson's Birds list. Guiltily, I might add - you're the resident "birdlister".
Btw - I see Gambel's quail, mallards, and Canada geese every day. This week I observed 3 fuzzy red-tailed hawk chicks in a nest in a stand of scrubby locust trees, watched chukar partridges hunkering in the lee of some sagebrush during a snowstorm atop a mountain (and hiding from the red fox that was roaming around), and upslope from the partridges flushed a ruffed grouse...I'm in bird-watching heaven lately!
-
Thanks, friend!
-
I'm guessing the bird--I've seen it in some older birding books. Thanks, h.
-
Some pigeonly C-words from Grose's A Provincial Glossary, 1787: cushets - wild pigeons (Yorksh.); culvers - pigeons (Exmoor); cruchet - a wood pigeon (north of Britain).
Of crotch-tail I'm not sure. Grose's definition is "kite", but I've not yet sussed out whether that refers to the toy or the bird.
-
Hey, thanks bilby!
-
Ah! Thanks! I knew it looked familiar, but couldn't make it say anything, even after waterboarding.
-
Okay, I give up. Who is devils mi snort/livid monsters?

reesetee commented on the word twit-twat
"As for twit-twat, an alternative name for the common house sparrow, that compound is not likely related to any of these twats or twits. Instead twit-twat is a shortened form of twittle-twattle, which arose as a variant of tittle-tattle, which arose as a reduplicated form of tattle, meaning to chatter."

Oh, and ru, those aren't the gas vans they're referring to in these cards. They were meant for protection from gas attacks. I found the description written on that particular card (although not the image): "MOBILE GAS VANS. Home Office mobile gas vans, two of which are illustrated, are used for the testing of respirators and for the purpose of training men and women under the conditions of an actual gas attack. The vans are so built that a gas cloud can be put up in the body of the van; the white canopies at the back are airlocks to prevent the escape of the gas when the door of the van itself is opened. The picture shows a group undergoing training at Hendon Police College; the respirator in use is the Service type, which is described on Card No. 31. (No.38)"

reesetee commented on the word fool hen
Nickname for the Spruce Grouse. When approached by a predator, it relies on camouflage and stillness to stay hidden, often allowing people to approach within a few feet before exploding into flight. The behavior earned it the nickname "fool hen." Clearly, it's not the fool in that particular situation. ;-)

From Mental Floss: "Without a Presidential election preceding it, this is kind of a lame duck holiday. Though the holiday was created to celebrate the introduction of the 20th Amendment in 1933, the amendment was actually ratified in January of that year. Lame duck day is more of a way to honor those who just left office after being rendered totally ineffective for a few months. In other words, it is appropriately lame."
