  • What this word means---if it isn't a typo---is unclear and disputed. David Foster Wallace used it once, possibly (but it seems unlikely, given that he was, well, David Foster Wallace) a typo for cachexic: "Goran Ivanisevic is large and tan and surprisingly good-looking—at least for a Croat; I always imagine Croats looking ravaged and katexic and like somebody out of a Munch lithograph."

In Infinite Jest DFW wrote: "Joelle is surrounded by catexic newcomers crossing and uncrossing their legs every few seconds and sniffing compulsively and looking like they're wearing everything they own." -- but this could also be a play on Freud's use of "katexis" to mean "the process by means of which libido energy is tied or placed into the mental representation of a personality, idea, or thing."

  • Katexic they may be, but they outshine the Bosnian clade by a good wink
