Der Vorstandssprecher der Deutschen Bank, Hilmar Kopper, bezeichnete im April 1994 auf einer Pressekonferenz Verluste in Höhe von ca. 50 Mio DM, die durch den Bankrott des Bau- und Immobilienkonzerns Schneider entstanden waren, als »Peanuts«, also als unwichtige Größe. Da es sich dabei aber vor allem um Gelder handelte, die kleineren und mittleren Firmen für schon erbrachte Leistungen zustanden, war diese Qualizifizierung außerordentlich zynisch, weil die Außenstände etliche Firmen an den Rand des Ruins brachten.
Die Entschuldigung Koppers auf einer Aktionärsversammlung kann nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass finanzielle Probleme, die für den Durchschnittsbürger existenzbedrohend wären, in Finanzkreisen auch sonst gern als »Peanuts« abgetan werden, wobei zu bedenken ist, dass Banken zu einem wesentlichen Teil von geliehenem Geld, auch von Kleinsparern, leben, die sich durch einen derartigen Wortgebrauch zutiefst missachtet fühlen müssen. Der verbale Ausrutscher Koppers war also nur im Hinblick auf die Höhe der Verluste einmalig; er hat durchaus seine Basis im kaltschnäuzigen Umgang mit Problemen anderer und offenbart damit eine grundsätzlich inhumane Haltung.
