From Ancient Greek ψυχικός (psukhikos, "relative to the soul, spirit, mind"). Earlier referred to as "psychical"; or from Ancient Greek ψυχή (psukhē, "soul, mind, psyche"). First appeared (as substantive) 1871 and first records 1895.
