  • A type of nag beep that occurs every 9 minutes.

  • Mine is every five minutes. It's much easier to calculate but I just can't get used to it (I'm used to 9.).

    November 12, 2008

  • I wonder who chose 9 minutes, anyway?

    November 12, 2008

  • The Big Chooze.

    November 12, 2008

  • Who needs an alarm clock? I wake up when a congregation of pigeons starts chirping a noodle oot noo outside my window.

    And not before.

    November 12, 2008

  • Do they do so every 9 minutes?

    November 12, 2008

  • Seems like it. There's a noodle oot noo from one tree, then the answer, in a different pitch, of a noodle oot noo from another. Then I roll over, and try to dream of Wordie for a passing while, but then they noodle me again.

  • Tonight, I am not setting my alarm. I am sleeping in tomorrow morning, no snooze button for me. Why? Because my exams are over and I can.

    November 12, 2008

  • Wahoo! Good for you, plethora! Sleep the sleep of the just.

Bilby, I think your noodle oot noo needs to go on oroboros' list of bird songs.

  • I always assumed they picked nine minutes so that when you hit the snooze button three times in a row without even really noticing, you'll have three minutes to realize "Holy shit, I'm gonna be late!" and get up and get out the door.

Worked like that for me all through high school and college, anyway.

    November 12, 2008

  • Hmm....

    November 12, 2008

  • Rubbish. When you hit 'Snooze' on a bear alarm clock you get nine weeks. Hibernation bonus :-)

    November 12, 2008

  • The snooze on my phone is six minutes, I think.

And you've set me off into trying to remember, as I do every now and then, what I was once told our woodpigeons say. I think it might be go home now, Betty.

  • There are probably other, weirder, places on the internt for pigeon comparison, but I'll take it. That's charming!

    November 12, 2008

  • My clock radio has the standard 9 minutes, but my phone snooze time is 2 minutes. It takes about 45 minutes from first alarm until I actually get out of bed.

    November 12, 2008

  • I chooses 3 snoozes! What IS the deal with 9 minutes? When you add the 9 minutes to the 10 minutes I have my clock set ahead, times 3 snoozes - you're getting into some serious math for 6 am...

    November 13, 2008

  • I find that there's a process. There's that moment when you can hear the soft mechanical sound of your alarm clock preparing to wake you up. You have a choice. Bounce out of bed or hit snooze? It's a monumental decision to make at 6am. I often take the middle road. Turn the light on after the first snooze, but bury my head under the pillow. That usually helps speed things up. Unless I feel like bouncing out of bed. Some mornings are made for bouncing.

    November 14, 2008

  • Some mornings are made for bouncing. This is why I love seeing jennarenn post. :-)

    November 14, 2008

  • I would love my mornings to bounce, even though they mostly hit the floor and go *splot*

But you're right, the jennarennberry gargleblaster rocks!

  • My alarm clock is completely unpredictable. It's a cheap Chinese number (Five Rams), completely mechanical, and even though I carefully wind it up each evening sometimes it just stops in the middle of the night. But I love its vaguely Art Deco styling and its construction (the curved metal back provides the "bell" and when it does ring it's a clanger). Above all I love the soothing way its irregular ticking puts me to sleep with wonderful additive rhythms, and I have yet to find another clock that gives similar satisfaction.

    November 14, 2008

  • Nobody is listing 'clock satisfaction.' Why don't you?
