Wordies,
I'm afraid that it's my fault if Basil started sending messages here on Wordie.
I think his website is a nice idea, so I started using it and linking to Wordie there and vice versa.
I couldn't expect this. Sorry!

Edit: I kindly obfuscated the e-mail address, because after all I wouldn't want to be responsible for Basil's being spammed.

Any connection do you think with Word Wizard?
Edit: Sound Lantern is Basil Miles; Word Wizard was founded by Rufus Miles.

His profile now says 'sorry guys didn't realise this was spam', so it seems to have worked.

I think John deleted his account. Well, he knows how to apologize anyway. Otherwise, he'll have one less SL user tomorrow.

(By the way: apologize and realize don't sound British to me!)

They're well established British usage, actually; we just have the -ise alternative in common usage too. Now if he'd said analyze, that would suggest a non-Brit.

Basil just sent me a very polite email. My fuse is kinda short today. Appreciated his laying off, and apologizing.
I don't really need to learn anything about this person--you're an idiot if you think putting the same pasted message on a hundred profiles is anything other than abuse.

Prolagus, don't feel bad about using the other site and linking it back to Wordie. That's a fine use of both sites.

Yep, what John said. Apology is fine, accepted. But honestly, a person turns up at a community as a new member and his first act is to invite a hundred people he doesn't know to his own site ... how can that not be outrageously abusive? If Basilly is web-savvy enough to have his own site, he knows it's spam.
