They're synonymous words, but comida (food in English) is the most used word. Then, the verbs comer and yantar (eat in English) are synonymous words too, but we usually use comer.

Is there a context where yantar occurs? For example, it English you could say victuals, snacks, grub, etc., each with a specific connotation.

I think that comer and yantar are used in the same context. The main difference between them is that comer is the word we often use for the action of eating, and yantar is an obsolete word. I only have seen old villagers using the word yantar
