You know what bugs me, though, John? This note was at the top of the article in the paper:

"The following Returns should have been added to those inserted in our last week’s paper."

Aaaagh! That means I have to go find the previous week's paper and find out how much junk I need to add to each one of these!

But yeah... thanks for thinking I'm a completist... I heart Wordie because it's a place for me to put all this archaic historical stuff. Yay!

Okay, I found the earlier article, November 15, 1781:

Extract of a letter from York-Town, October 19.

“Return of the British army at York and Gloucester:—2 regiments artillery, 2 of guards, 2 of light-infantry, 7 of foot, viz. 17th, 23d, 33d, 45th, 71st, 76th, and 80th; 2 regiments Anspachers, Hereditary Prince’s regiment of horse, Simcoe’s and Tarleton’s legions ditto, and 1800 Negroes; in all about 7900, exclusive of 1000 seamen, a British regiment number unknown, and 9 companies of Yagers (Jaegers were German-speaking riflemen): 60 pieces brass cannon, 150 iron ditto (meaning "the same"); 900 barrels beef and pork, 300 ditto flour, 150 firkins butter, 70 barrels powder, 80 ships, large and small.---Remainder not come to hand.�?

So the above list was the stuff that came to hand, in addition to the above.

Well, if I made a list of all the words *associated with* the siege of Yorktown, there'd be a third list! I didn't even consider the actual siege, the bombardment, or even the Continental army's march from New England to Virginia--the line stretched for 35 miles!

Or the French troops...

Actually... maybe I'll start that list next.
