The true New Yorkie falls somewhere along the empiricist - rationalist spectrum. But that is too highbrow and perhaps undefined. How about mostmodernist?

I believe it refers to inhabitants of the city rather than the state, no?

Actually, I think, Knickerbocker was first used (after Washington Irving's fictional persona Dietrich Knickerbocker) to refer to the Dutch descendents of the original settlers of the state, who lived not only in the city but also along the Hudson River Valley.

Another, rather facetious suggestion for the inhabitants of NY State would be Empiricists.

or maybe less facetiously, Empirites.

Also, I see that New York Staters gets a few Googlits.

Finally, if NYC means New York City, then would NYS be New York State. If so, we perhaps could say Nyssers.

It amuses me that this list has sat quiet and unnoticed for six months, only to see a flurry of comments over the space of 24 hours. :-) I live in hope that some of my other unnoticed lists will someday attract the attention of my fellow Wordies (hint hint).

And, for the record, while I favor "Yorkian" to refer to upstaters, I think the phrase "Nork-Nork" is just adorable. :-)
