So, here's the thing. Although much of it is incomprehensible to me, I am nonetheless a great fan of T.S. Eliot's "Four Quartets" - there is something hypnotic about the language that draws me in. However, I have a hard time including it in this category, because - frankly - four quartets seems like a misnomer. The poem is made up of four constituent parts, "Little Gidding", "Burnt Norton" etc. But that amounts to just a single quartet. It would be OK if each of the constituent parts were a quartet, but each is clearly divided into five sub-parts.

How 'bout the Horsemen of the Apocalypse? The Musketeers? (you'd have to include d'Artagnan).

Black Angels? "In 1970, the American composer George Crumb was inspired by the Vietnam war to write his Black Angels string quartet."
If you haven't heard it, it's hair raising...

Oh no, tick coming on.. lots of bands... can't... hold... Argh! The Modern Lovers. The Pixies. The Velvet Underground, if you don't count Nico. Electrelane. Wall of Voodoo. Led Zeppelin. The Who. The Monkeys. The Ramones. The Talking Heads. The Sex Pistols and The Clash. Minor Threat and Fugazi. Joy Division and New Order. The Bangles. Public Enemy, sort of. The Beastie Boys, if you count Mixmaster Mike. The Shirelles. The Shangri-Las. The Chiffons, until they added a fifth. Ruby and the Romantics. And of course The Four Tops, 4 Non Blonds, The Four Seasons, The Four Townsmen, The Four Knights, The Four Buddies, The Four Freshmen, and The Gang of Four.
And a million more, but I'll stop now.
