    I found more information, though. Early lehrs were connected to a glassmaking furnace by flues, but it was difficult to control heat and smoke. Later lehrs were long, brick-lined, separately heated tunnels through which the glass objects were slowly pushed. The glass remained in the lehr for several hours, while it was gradually reheated and then uniformly cooled. Today's lehrs work on a conveyor belt system.
