  • I never left, c_b. I just decided that I would comment only if I had anything useful to say, and it turns out I rarely do.

    I've never actually heard piurci used in speech--I've only seen it written down. The transliteration of Yupik is very tricky. I have a call in to a friend of mine on the correct pronunciation and I'll send it along when I get it. Many of my students use it when they communicate with my via their blogs or e-mail as a closing.

  • Here is the Yupik pronunciation: b'yook jee

    There is a slight accent on "yook," and "yook" is very guttural.

    I learned today that this form is plural and is usually used when saying goodbye to a group. "Piura" (b'yook ah) is used when addressing an individual.
