OED offers this note about geometry using words that end in -trix to indicate straight lines, such as bisectrix or directrix (neither of which I've ever heard, but then again I don't do geometry often), or more rarely curves or surfaces, such as indicatrix.

It also offers "paintrix" (which sounds just awful, if you ask me) or "paintrice," as an alternative to "paintress."

I agree that paintrix is just *huuuhg*, but I do like indicatrix, even if it is geometrical, rather than a feminization.
